GETAWAY: Puncak Borneo Resort

By Telca James
Photos by Tdora Photography

I was away from town for a weekend getaway on June 6, I'm off from the clubbing scene and events for a while...I just wanna chill in peace. Since it was school holiday, most of the hotels in Kundasang are fully book so I end up staying in Puncak Borneo Resort which located to the road heading to Bundu Tuhan. I like the place a lot because of the magnificent view of the Mount Kinabalu but I was a bit disappointed with the staff for not informing earlier that they are having problem with the gen set which affecting the water heater. Imagine I have to take bath with icy cold water...brr that was really bad experience but surprisingly I'm not that upset though, weird. Those who very particular with water heater and wanted to stay there...please do check with them before commit with your room booking. I would say, Puncak Borneo Resort perfect for group outing i.e. family gathering or even with friends. They provide family room, single or double room, BBQ pit and a cafe overlooking the Mount Kinabalu. Please bear in mind that they have limited rooms if I'm not mistaken about 10 rooms only. So it's advisable to book in advance specially during peak period. For more info, please contact Puncak Borneo Resort at 088-889699.

FoodCrave: I love Mi Hun Soup!

I arrived Ranau around 11am last Saturday and the town was a bit busy due to the weekend market or we called it Tamu Minggu in town. Not only that, there was a wedding ceremony at the church for 9 couples, another reason why the road was a bit busy. I didn't had my breakfast before going to Ranau and since it was too early for heavy lunch, I decided to have something light - Tong Fang Mi Hun Soup! The soup was just nice and what makes it even yummy is the chillies served with it!!! If you drop by to Ranau, please don't miss to have a bowl of Mi Hun soup at Tong Fang Kopitiam at Block A, Lot 6, Sedco shop at Ranau town.

Recently, I arranged a food review with the local press at Royal China restaurant in conjunction with the new opening hours of the restaurant and the latest promotion on Dim Sum and Father's Day menu. Royal China restaurant, D Junction’s well known Chinese restaurant is a chain restaurant under Tai Thong Group of Restaurants now open for breakfast as early as 8am daily from Monday to Sunday, offers varieties of its luscious Dim Sum for breakfast.

Chef Chai and Eric Lee the restaurant manager started with the food review by presenting a display of a few Dim Sum and dessert for photo taking. Then minutes after that the waiter started to served hot piping scrumptious Dim Sum, according to Eric normally they don't cook the Dim Sum in advance and place it in Dim Sum trolley, Dim Sum will only be cook upon ordering unless when they have big group of customers in the outlet then they will place the Dim Sum in trolley. The reason why they only cook the Dim Sum upon ordering when not many people in the outlet is to ensure the quality of the Dim Sum consistent and to prevent it from harden due to over heated in the trolley. Therefore, guest can enjoy their Dim Sum hot and soft all the time. Royal China is having Dim Sum promotion @RM1.98++ per items at the moment which will end by June 30, 09....this of course I would definitely go!

Highlight for the month of June will be Father’s Day promotions for family dinner gatherings which priced range from RM288++ for 4 pax, RM438++ for 6 pax and RM688++ for 10 pax. Items featured in the menu would be Royal China special combinations, braised shark’s fin soup, roasted duck, pomfret in two-varieties, deep fried prawns, stewed homemade bean curd with vegetables, seafood fried udon and two types of desserts. Oh...gosssh so yummy but we're not having that menu for the review heheheee...instead, Chef Chai prepared Royal China signature dishes such as roasted sliced pork, honey glazed pork ribs and few more other items.

Royal China located at the 2nd floor of D Junction building which also cater for big event such as wedding, full moon celebrations, birthday, corporate annual luncheon or dinner and gatherings. Open from Monday – Friday at 8:00am - 2:30pm & 6:30pm - 10:30pm while on Saturday, Sunday & Public Holiday at 8:00am - 2:30pm & 6:30pm - 10:30pm. For reservations, please contact 088 703 300.
